The Chatham Fire Department held
its annual Christmas Banquet on Tuesday, December 10, 2002. The Banquet was
held in the Fellowship Hall of the Chatham Baptist Church. It was a lovely evening
with great food, good company, and wonderful music. A local gospel music group
provided the entertainment for the night. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
The banquet serves as our awards ceremony. The Firefighter of the Year Award
and any service awards are recognized. We were pleased to have special guests
Jim Davis, Tim Davis, and William and Christine Baggerly join us at our
Banquet. Jim is the Director of the Pittsylvania County Department of Emergency
Management, which is the agency that dispatches all Pittsylvania County fire
departments and rescue squads. Tim Davis is the editor of the Star-Tribune
newspaper. Christine and her husband William head up the fundraising efforts
for a new Chatham fire station.

The annual banquet is a wonderful time for everyone to get
together and enjoy each other’s company.

Captain Steve Finkner, pictured here with Chief Landon
Worsham, was recognized for completing
20 years of service with the Chatham Volunteer Fire
Department, from 1982 to 2002.

Treasurer H.L. Gatewood was the recipient of this year’s Firefighter of the Year Award, presented by
Chief Landon Worsham. H.L. comes from a long line of
Chatham firemen; he represents the third
generation of his family to become a member of the Chatham
Fire Department.

H.L. is pictured here with his lovely wife Mary Margaret.
H.L. was also honored with a
service award. He was recognized with having completed 10
years of service from 1992 to 2002.
By completing 10 years of service, H.L. has subsequently become a Life Member of this Department.
