DISPATCH AND COMMUNICATIONS

The Pittsylvania County Department of Emergency Management and Communications, better known as CECOM, dispatches the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department.  All county fire departments, rescue squads, town police officers, and Sheriff’s Deputies are dispatched through CECOM. Fire Departments and Rescue Squads are alerted by a tone that is unique to each department or squad.

We have the ability to communicate on a wide range of radio frequencies.  However, we are normally dispatched through one channel, then while on-scene at an incident we operate on one of several alternative frequencies. We do this in order to keep radio traffic on the primary frequencies to a minimum.
