DONATIONS

The Chatham Volunteer Fire Department relies heavily on donations from the citizens, organizations, and businesses within our service area. Currently our building project is underway and many of the donations that we receive are being put towards our new station. If you wish to support our building fund please do so. We welcome anything you can give to help us out.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

Vacation Giveaway – Our 2002 Vacation Giveaway was a big success, we raised over $11,000 and after the prize was taken out the department received $9,315. We held the drawing on September 2, 2002 and the Winner was Mrs. Bonnie Brown of Dry Fork.

Chatham - Sartomer 5K Race – This event benefits the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, the Chatham Rescue Squad, and several other charities. Although we do not put on this event, we do provide personnel, a fire truck, tables, chairs, and anything else that we have available. This event also allows us to get out in the public and distribute fire prevention literature. The CVFD received $3000 from the race earnings.

Raffle Drawing – The Chatham Fire Department’s 2003 Vacation Giveaway has concluded. Tickets were sold for $20.00 a ticket, and approximately $5,600 was raised. The drawing was held at our Pinto Bean and Hot Dog Supper on April 29, 2003. The winners were as follows:

Grand Prize

Mr. Rudy Shupik of Chatham.

Rudy chose to take the $2000 Cash.

Second Prize

Mr. Byron Reynolds of Chatham.

Mr. Reynolds received $500 Cash.

Third Prize

Mr. William “Bill” Simpson of Chatham.

Mr. Simpson received $250 cash.

Bean Supper – Our annual bean supper was held on April 29, 2003, at the Chatham High School Cafeteria.

VOLUNTEERING

The Chatham Volunteer Fire Department is constantly seeking volunteers. Whether it is people who want to be firefighters or individuals who wish to be in the Friends of the Fire Department (a group of relatives and friends who support us and help with our fundraising efforts). Please send us an email if wish to volunteer your time in any capacity.

Qualifications for Membership

18 Years of Age.
Live Within our Coverage Area.
Have a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
Acceptable Driving Record.
Must obtain a letter from a licensed physician stating that you are able to perform strenuous activity.
Be able to take and pass a Virginia State Certified Firefighter I Course within one year of membership.
Be able to take a pass a Virginia State Certified EVOC Course within one year of membership.
