
On August 11, 2001 the Chatham Fire Department responded to a fire at the Powell Hotel on Main Street in Chatham. Mutual Aid was received from Gretna Fire Department, Dry Fork Fire Department, and Blairs Fire Department. Chatham Rescue Squad was also on hand for EMS standby.
The fire was contained to the upper floor of the structure, by utilizing interior firefighters and an aerial master-stream from Chatham’s ladder truck. No one was injured and the structural integrity of the building was saved, thanks to the quick and professional actions of all firefighters on the scene.
