Chief Landon Worsham has served with the department since 1953 and has been chief since 1963. The year 2003 marks his 50th year of service to the Chatham Community and 40th year of leadership to this department. He is a life member of the Chatham Fire Department. Mr. Worsham is also a Charter Life Member and former Captain of the Chatham Rescue Squad, however he is no longer active in the Rescue Squad. He has completed training in Firefighter III, EMT-Shock Trauma, Haz-Mat Awareness, Firefighting Strategy and Tactics, Fire Ground Command, EVOC, and numerous other courses and certifications. Mr. Worsham owns and operates Worsham TV and Appliance, in Chatham.

Assistant Chief Donald Motley has served with the department since 1980. He has been a lieutenant, captain, and was recently elected assistant chief for 2003. He is also a life member of both the Chatham Fire Department and the Chatham Rescue Squad, however he is no longer active in the Rescue Squad. His training includes Firefighter III, EMT–Cardiac Tech, Vehicle Extrication Certification, Vehicle Extrication Instructor, CPR Instructor, Haz-Mat Awareness, Pump Operations, EVOC, and several other courses. Donald is currently a Sergeant with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Rodney Brooks has been with the CVFD since 1981. He has served as equipment officer, supply officer, lieutenant, and was recently elected to the captain’s position left open as Donald Motley moved up. He is another one of our life members of both the Chatham Fire Department and the Chatham Rescue Squad, however he is no longer active in the Rescue Squad. His training includes Firefighter II, EMT-Paramedic, Vehicle Extrication, Haz-Mat Operations, EVOC, and several other courses. Rodney is a professional firefighter with the City of Danville.

Captain Steve Finkner started serving with the CVFD in 1982. He has been serving as Captain for several years now and he is a life member. He has completed training in Firefighter II, EMT, Instructor III, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Haz-Mat Operations, EVOC, and numerous other courses and certifications. Steve is the President of the Pittsylvania County Fire & Rescue Association and also serves on the board of the Danville and Pittsylvania County Regional Fire Training Center. Steve is a Professional Firefighter and Captain with the Danville City Fire Department. Steve is also a member of the Danville Fire Department Regional Hazardous Materials Team.

Lieutenant Bobby Campbell has been with this department since 1967. He has served in several positions and is in his second year as lieutenant. He is also another one of our life members of both the Chatham Fire Department and the Chatham Rescue Squad, however he is no longer active in the Rescue Squad. Bobby’s training includes Firefighter III, Haz-Mat Awareness, EMT, EVOC, and several other courses. He is currently employed at the Times Fiber Communications plant, in Chatham.

Lieutenant Jacob Coles joined the CVFD in 1994. He served several years as the training officer and was recently elected to lieutenant. Jacob is a past active member and former Captain of the Chatham Rescue Squad and he is the Treasurer of the Pittsylvania County Fire & Rescue Association. He has completed training in Firefighter II, EMT-Shock Trauma, Vehicle Extrication, Instructor II, Haz-Mat Operations, Trench Rescue, Rope Rescue II, Confined Space Rescue, EVOC, and numerous other courses and certifications. He is now currently enrolled in the fire science program at DCC. Jacob is employed with the Danville Fire Department and is a member of the Danville Fire Department Tactical Rescue Team.

Richard Inge has been faithfully serving the Chatham Fire Department since 1964. Richard served as the department’s assistant chief for many years. He is a life member and former Captain of the Chatham Rescue Squad, and a life member of the Fire Department. He has completed training in Firefighter III, EMT-Cardiac Tech, Haz-Mat Awareness, Firefighting Strategy and Tactics, Fire Ground Command, Aerial Ladder Operations, EVOC, and numerous other courses and certifications. He is currently in an inactive status while recovering from heart surgery. Richard retired from the Virginia Department of Forestry, after many long years of service.

Terry Kelly has been serving with the Chatham Fire Department since 1970. He has served as training officer and most recently served as a lieutenant. He is also a life member of both the Chatham Rescue Squad and the Chatham Fire Department, however he is no longer active in the rescue squad. He has completed training in Firefighter III, EMT-Cardiac Tech, Instructor III, Haz-Mat Operations, EVOC, and numerous other courses and certifications. As an instructor, Terry has taught classes to many of the members of the various fire departments in this county. Terry is currently a dispatcher for the Pittsylvania County Department of Emergency Management and Communications (CECOM).

Training officer Tom Milette has been a member of this department since 1994. He has served as equipment officer, secretary, and was recently elected to the position of training officer. Tom serves on the board of the Danville and Pittsylvania County Regional Fire Training Center and is a past active member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. He has completed training in Firefighter II, Instructor III, Haz-Mat Operations, EMT, EVOC, and numerous other courses. He is now enrolled in the fire science program at DCC. Tom is a regular instructor at regional fire schools. He is currently the Health and Safety Director at the Sartomer Chemical Plant, in Chatham.

H.L. Gatewood became a member of the Chatham Fire Department in 1992. His grandfather, Haile Gatewood, was the department treasurer for many years until his death, upon which time H.L. was elected to the position. He is a past active member of the Chatham Rescue Squad and a life member of the CVFD. His training includes Firefighter I, EMT, Pump Operations, Haz-Mat Awareness, EVOC, and Search and Rescue. H.L. currently serves as a Corporal and Master Deputy with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, and as a member of their SWAT Team. He is also enrolled in the Administration of Justice program at DCC.

 Ramsey Brooks has been with the department since 1965.  He has served in several positions in the department. Currently he is the vehicle officer. He is a past active member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. Ramsey has completed courses in Firefighter III, EMT, EVOC and several other courses. He is a life member of both the rescue squad and the Chatham Fire Department. He is currently in an inactive firefighting status with the department. He is employed as supervisor of the bus shop for the Pittsylvania County School Board.

Sam Owen has served on the Chatham Fire Department since 1971. Mr. Owen has served in several positions and is currently serving as the department’s Sergeant-At-Arms. He has completed training in Firefighter III, Instructor II, Haz-Mat Awareness, Pump Operations, and various other courses.  He is a life member of the fire department and is currently serving in an inactive status, however over the years he has been very active with the department. Mr. Owen currently works in sales at Worsham TV and Appliance Shop, in Chatham.

Matt Oakes joined the Chatham Fire Department in 1994. He has completed training in EMT, Haz-Mat Awareness, Vehicle Extrication, Vehicle Extrication Instructor, Farm Machinery Extrication, EVOC, and several other courses. Matt is a past active member and former Rescue Lieutenant of the Chatham Rescue Squad. He is a former deputy with Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office. Matt is now a dispatcher with the Pittsylvania County Department of Emergency Management and Communications (CECOM).

Edmund “Mr. Ed” Giles joined the CVFD in 1980. Edmund is proudly serving the department and its members as the Departmental Chaplain. He is a life member of both the Chatham Rescue Squad and the Fire Department, however he is no longer active with the rescue squad. He has completed training in Firefighter III, EMT-Shock Trauma, Haz-Mat Awareness, EVOC, and several other courses. Mr. Ed has also attended many safety and incident command seminars through the Commonwealth of Virginia. Edmund is currently serving as the Virginia Department of Transportation, Maintenance Manager for Pittsylvania County.

Coleman Creasy joined the Chatham Fire Department in the summer of 2002. Coleman has completed Firefighter I and Vehicle Rescue 2000. Coleman also plans to complete an EMT certification course in the summer of 2003. He is also a current member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. Coleman is a 2002 graduate of Chatham High School and is currently enrolled at DCC.

John Scott joined the Chatham Fire Department in 2002. He has completed Firefighter I, Vehicle Rescue 2000, Farm Machinery Extrication, Basic Pump Operations, EVOC, and is currently taking an EMT course. He is also a current member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. John is the department secretary and is the designer and webmaster of this site. He is currently employed at Scott Funeral Home. John is a 2002 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, in Chatham.

Doug Powell joined the Chatham Fire Department in 1985. He has completed Firefighter III, Haz-Mat Awareness, Basic Pump Operations, EVOC, and several other courses. Doug is also a life member of the Chatham Fire Department. He currently serves as the department’s equipment officer. Todd Payne began service with the Chatham Fire Department in 1988. He has completed training in Firefighter I, EVOC, and several other courses. Todd is also taking an EMT course and is a current member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. He is a life member of the Chatham Fire Department. Todd is employed as a tractor-trailer operator for Times Fiber Communications, in Chatham. He is also a part-time employee for Scott Funeral Home.

Daniel Giles joined the Chatham Fire Department in the spring of 2002. He follows his father and uncle, who are both active members, into the department. Daniel has completed Fire Attack Essentials, Firefighter I, Vehicle Rescue 2000, Farm Machinery Extrication, Basic Pump Operations, and is currently taking an EMT course. He is also a current member of the Chatham Rescue Squad. Daniel is a 1999 graduate of Chatham High School and a 2001 graduate of DCC.

Chad Shelton came onto the Chatham Fire Department in the spring of 2002. He has completed training in Firefighter I, EVOC, and in several other courses. He was previously a very active member of the Climax Volunteer Fire Department, prior to moving to the Chatham area. Chad works with his father in the logging industry.

Tim Hammell joined the Chatham Fire Department in the summer of 2002. Over the years he has been very active in many volunteer groups and functions. Tim is currently employed with Dan River Mills, Inc, in Danville.

William Stafford joined the Chatham Fire Department in late 2002. William has completed Firefighter I, EMT, and terrorism training in the State of Maryland.

Steve Terry has been on this department since 1999. He is also a member of the Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department and has been serving with them for several years now. He is an employee at the Advance Auto Parts store in Chatham.

Chris Anderson joined the Chatham Fire Department in January 2003.  Chris is a former member of the Mt. Hermon Volunteer Fire Department, a Charter Member and past Captain of the Dry Fork Volunteer Fire Department, and a former member and past lieutenant of the Chatham Rescue Squad. Chris has completed training as Firefighter I, EMT, Search and Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Farm Machinery Extrication, Swift Water Rescue, EVOC, and several courses and certifications. Chris is currently a master deputy and SWAT Team Officer with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
